Razorbacks in need of miracle
Monday, 10 August 2009

The finals fate of the NQ McDonald's Razorbacks is out of their hands after they went down to Brisbane Strikers in the penultimate round of the Hyundai Queensland State League on Friday.

The Razorbacks lost 2 - 0 to the Strikers at Perry Park in Brisbane, all but leaving the team needing a miracle to reach a second straight finals campaign.

Brisbane scored just before half time through Steve Unsworth after clever work in the box, to take a 1 -0 lead into the break before pouncing on the counter attack in the 60th minute to double their advantage.  Scorer Luke Morley finished with a volley after an accurate cross.

To rub salt into their woulds, Razorbacks Hayden Beale suffered medial ligament damage in the first half, while Nathan Whitton did not see out the stanza.

A disappointed Razorbacks coach, Mick Tonne praised the guts and the determination of his side but admitted they had been outplayed by a better team on the night.

"I'm very proud of them, they played extremely well, they tried their hearts out, no one let us down", he said.

"We're very despondent at the moment, but, as tough as it is, we have to go back to training on Monday and perform well next week against the Capricorn Cougars at the Townsville Sports Reserve.
