Miners Announce Squad for 2009

The Whitsunday Miners FC are excited to announce five new signings for the Hyundai QSL 2009 Season.
The Miners have secured the services of Graham Harvey a former Queensland Lions defender. Harvey, a secondary school teacher, has been transferred to Mackay and adds size, strength and experience to the Miners’ backline.
Also new to the Miners is midfielder Dave Pritchard who played last year for Rocklea. Pritchard’s ability to attack down either flank will excite the crowds at
Harrup
Park this season. He is also a secondary school teacher who has also transferred to Mackay.
The other significant signing is Kyle Pratten, a goalkeeper who hails from
Newcastle . Last season, the Miners only custodian was Brad Moss, but the addition of Pratten will keep them both on their toes, vying for the number 1 jersey.
Two local players, Kyle McBurney (Lions) and Aaron Craig (Wanderers) have also committed to the Miners this season. McBurney, a midfielder/defender starred in last season’s Mackay grand final. Craig, an experienced midfielder has impressed in the intra-club trials held recently.
The club is pleased to announce that the bulk of the squad from last season has returned to the Miners. Experienced midfielder Troy Mundy has been named captain. Last season’s “Player of the Year”, Mitch Wallace has returned along with leading striker Michael Van Moolenbroek.

Exciting young fullback, Brett Neeve, who has caught the eye of NQ Fury officials, leads the defence along with regular defenders
Troy and Dwayne German, Ben Schaper and Greg Willey. Midfielders Daniel Scotton and Matt Wrightson will again be joined by youngsters Corey Hooper(18) and Brett Rebetzke(17), both of whom have represented
Queensland at junior level.
The Miners still have the option of adding two more players to their roster. Under consideration are two local strikers and a Danish midfielder from
Airlie
Beach .
