Round 20 Preview
As the season heads into August the Brisbane Strikers have extended their lead to twelve points, courtesy of their win last week over the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast Fire’s loss in their crucial fixture against the Whitsunday Miners. Meanwhile, the Miners’ impressive ten-man effort in that game propelled them from fourth position to second as they leapfrogged both the Fire and the Far North Queensland Bulls, who could only draw at home against their fierce north Queensland rivals, the Razorbacks. The results saw the Fire drop into unfamiliar territory – outside of the top two for the first time since the very start of the season. Meanwhile, outside of the top four the biggest gain was made by the Capricorn Cougars, who returned to winning ways over Bundaberg and moved into equal sixth place with QAS Football, who had the bye. QAS Football, however, remain the only team currently outside of the four who could still push for finals football, given that they have two games in hand over the Bulls, who are eleven points ahead of them in fourth. This weekend the Bulls have the bye.
